Just The Game

PRIVACY NOTICE / SEPTEMBER 19, 2026

Privacy.

A clear account of what stays on your phone, what you send, and what happens next.

This notice describes the current beta and website. Hosting-log and support-email retention details still need to be confirmed before public launch.

No user account. No advertising or tracking SDKs in the app. You choose whether to join the mailing list or send a diagnostic report.

The app

Just The Game is an independent baseball companion made by Syd Sidney aka Erin Sidney. You don’t need a Just The Game user account to use the iPhone app.

Your selected team is saved on your device. The app uses your device’s locale and time zone to display dates and game times. It doesn’t request your precise location.

To load baseball information, the app sends requests to the Just The Game service. Those requests include the team or game being requested. Like other internet services, the hosting infrastructure receives network information, including your IP address, to deliver and protect the service.

The app keeps preloaded game results in memory. It doesn’t save their contents to disk or include them in its diagnostic log.

Optional game notifications

If you turn on game notifications, the Just The Game service stores an app-installation identifier, Apple's push-notification token, your favorite team, and your chosen alert types so it can send those alerts to your iPhone. A secret stored in your iPhone's Keychain lets the app update or turn off its own registration; the service stores a hash of that secret. No Just The Game account is required. This information is used to operate notifications, not for advertising or tracking across other apps or websites.

Apple delivers notifications through its push-notification service. The notification content and our notification records exclude scores, game results, headlines, and video URLs.

To limit automated registrations, the service temporarily stores a keyed fingerprint derived from the network address supplied by our hosting provider. The notification database does not store the original IP address. This fingerprint can group registrations from the same network; it is not used to follow your browsing. Hosting providers separately process network information as described elsewhere in this notice.

You can turn each alert off in Settings → Notifications in the app, or manage system permission in iPhone Settings. After an all-off choice reaches the service, the push token is removed from the alert registration. If you change system permission while the app is closed, reopen the app with an internet connection so it can synchronize that change.

Inactive notification routing expires after 30 days. Minimal records that prevent delayed requests from restoring removed registrations can remain for up to 90 more days. Operational records without scores expire after 7 days. Enrollment tickets expire after 10 minutes, and network-rate records expire within 48 hours. Expired records are removed by the service's scheduled cleanup. These periods apply to Just The Game's notification database; Apple's and the hosting providers' processing is covered by their own policies.

The website & mailing list

On your first visit, the website uses approximate IP-based location supplied by our hosting service to choose a nearby team’s colors. If location is unavailable, it starts with Boston. We don’t request your device’s precise location or save the location used for this choice. Only the team is saved in your browser. Choosing another team replaces that default; clearing this site’s browser data resets it. This preference is not sent with your mailing-list signup.

If you join the mailing list, your browser sends your email address directly to Kit for Just The Game news and updates. Kit receives the network information needed to process and protect that request, including your IP address. Kit manages your subscription, confirmation emails, and unsubscribe requests. Follow the confirmation link in your email to complete signup.

The signup form doesn’t ask for your name, team, or other profile information. Joining the list doesn’t create an app account or an Instagram membership.

With your permission, Google Analytics measures visits, traffic sources, selected link clicks, and mailing-list submissions accepted by Kit. A submission is counted separately from confirming your email or installing the beta. Google receives browser and device information, cookie identifiers, and network information needed to deliver its service. We don’t send your signup email or selected team to Google Analytics, and Google advertising features are off.

If you allow advertising cookies, the Meta pixel sends website visits and accepted signup submissions to Meta to measure Facebook and Instagram advertising. Meta receives page URLs, browser and device information, cookie identifiers, and network information including your IP address. It may associate this activity with your Meta account and use it under its privacy policy. We don’t send your signup email or enable automatic advanced matching.

Both types of optional tracking stay off until you choose them. You can reject optional cookies, choose each type separately, or change your choice through Cookie settings at the bottom of public pages. We remember your choice for up to 180 days. A Global Privacy Control signal keeps Meta tracking off. Changing your choice stops future tracking; it does not remove data already received by a provider. The site and signup form work without optional tracking.

Hosting and security services may use network logs and essential cookies. Private preview pages use ChatGPT sign-in; those pages receive your account identifier, email address, and available profile name to check access.

Support & diagnostics

When you email syd@syd-music.com, Syd receives your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. These are used to answer you and investigate the issue you report.

The app keeps a short diagnostic log in memory during the current session. Tapping Settings → Diagnostic Log → Send Log prepares an email you can review before sending. It includes:

  • App and build version, iOS version, and device family.
  • Your selected team, locale, and time zone.
  • Recent service events and any notes you enter.

The generated report excludes scores, game-result contents, precise location, and a persistent device identifier. Anything you type into your own notes or attach to your email is also sent if you choose to send the message.

Beta testing

If you install the beta through TestFlight, Apple automatically collects crash logs and usage information and shares them with the app developer. Feedback you submit through TestFlight is also shared. What identifies you depends in part on how you were invited.

This is separate from the optional in-app Send Log email. See Apple’s TestFlight privacy notice for the information Apple collects and how it handles it.

Other services

Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Meta’s privacy policy for their handling of optional website measurement data.

The website is hosted with OpenAI Sites on Cloudflare infrastructure. These providers process information needed to run and secure the website. Their handling is described in the OpenAI privacy policy and Cloudflare privacy policy.

Kit processes mailing-list signup and email-delivery information. Depending on email settings, it may also record email opens and link clicks. Its handling is described in the Kit privacy policy and subscriber data-processing terms.

Opening MLB links or playing available MLB media connects you to MLB or its media providers. Joining Just The Game Beta Testers or following the app on Instagram takes you to Instagram. Those services handle your activity under their own terms and privacy policies.

Your launch-list address is not automatically sent to Instagram or MLB when you sign up here.

How long information stays

Your team preference stays on your device until you change it or remove the app’s local data. The app’s in-memory diagnostic events and preloaded results aren’t a permanent history.

You can leave the mailing list using the unsubscribe link in our emails. Unsubscribing stops future mailing-list emails; to request deletion of your subscriber record, email Syd using the address you signed up with. Addresses collected before the move to Kit may remain in the website’s original database until migrated or deleted. New signups are not stored in that database.

Support messages remain in the support mailbox. You can ask for them to be deleted. The retention periods for that mailbox and the hosting services’ operational logs are still being confirmed for the final notice.

TestFlight information is handled under Apple’s retention rules, described in its privacy notice above.

Your choices & contact

You can use the app without joining the mailing list, sending a diagnostic email, or joining the Instagram group.

To ask about your information, request a copy or correction, leave the mailing list, or request deletion, email syd@syd-music.com. Include enough information for Syd to locate the record you mean. Requests involving information held by Apple, MLB, or Instagram may also need to go to that provider.

This notice will be updated when the app or website’s data practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision.
